Amazonia Undercover
April 28 // 7:00 – 8:13 pm PT

For 14,000 years, Indigenous populations in the Amazon have coexisted with the rainforest. Since 1970, 20% of the Brazilian Amazon has been deforested. Logging and forest fires are threatening a further 20%. Scientists say that at 40% deforestation, we will reach the point of no return. Due to the failure of the Brazilian government to protect the Amazon, an unexpected union is forming in the depths of the forest. Indigenous and local communities are rewriting history as they unite for the first time as allies against a common enemy—the ruthless, often criminal forces and the system which drives the destruction.

Out of the Blue
A child in Mexico inherits an unexpected future after his family of fishermen, facing ever shrinking catches, make a bold decision to change their fate. Their choice has a profound impact on both their environment and the education of the child. This VR experience dives into the story of a mother’s love and the legacy she leaves to her son.

The Ellen Fund presents: Gorillas in VR
Experience the magic of Rwanda’s mountain gorillas! The Ellen Fund, Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, and Rwanda Development Board are helping these endangered animals. This up-close 360° VR short was commissioned by The Ellen Fund in partnership with the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, South-African based Habitat XR, and the Rwanda Development Board to bring mountain gorillas to life. The Ellen Fund supports conservation efforts for endangered species. Founded by Portia de Rossi as a gift for Ellen DeGeneres, its immediate focus is to secure a future for wild gorillas by building the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, a permanent home in Rwanda. The Fossey Fund’s Ellen DeGeneres Campus will be the central hub for the organization’s programs aimed at saving gorillas and their habitats, training the next generation of conservationists, and improving the lives of local communities who play a critical role in protecting the gorillas’ forest home.

Mist Over Beijing
Nasa’s recent satellite photos of Beijing show how much China’s capital city suffers from pollution. Even today, when the Chinese government has issued a war on polluters to reach the “blue skies” under a blanket of smog, ordinary people continue to have no say when it comes to the high levels of pollution. On bad days, babies are kept indoors and people do not leave their homes unless they face desperate circumstances. Doctor Zhu, a distinguished Chinese master of medicine, who for a long time was a part of the system, finds out that he has lung cancer symptoms. He meets up with one of his students, now a leading doctor at the local hospital, who diagnoses him with lung cancer. Dr. Zhu researches his story and connects his health state with the pollution that has been really severe in the capital for many years. While he is being kept alive by American experimental cancer-medicine, he goes into a dialogue with his son about the future. This has a big impact on his son’s outlook and life. Only six months after this recording, Dr. Zhu passed away. He was a wonderful man who wanted to tell his story despite the dangers of speaking the truth. This experience is a tribute to him and his family.

The Endangered Starry Sky
Can’t see the Milky Way from where you are? Gaze up at the stars from Zion National Park. The park is taking steps to become an official “Dark Sky Place” in hopes of preserving its nocturnal vistas from light pollution, via CNNVR.

The Garbage Crisis in India
India suffers from a huge problem with garbage. With rapid urbanization, the country is facing a massive waste management challenge. Over 377 million urban people live in 7,935 towns and cities and generate 62 million tons of municipal solid waste per annum. It’s a huge problem but also the only source of income for thousands of families in India. Find out more from this 360 film from IntoVR.

In this 360° video from AirPano, you’ll see icebergs shining with every shade of white, untouched glaciers, crystal clear water, and the borderless blue sky. About 80% of the territory is covered by ice and such large amounts of ice forced the lithosphere to sink, forming the terrain of Greenland. All 250 km of Greenland’s coast are carved with deep and long fjords, often they are blocked with huge icebergs that are now of course melting...
